What to Expect

What to Expect at Our Retreat

Introduction 大綱

Before applying, it's essential to grasp the serious nature of our retreats to avoid any misunderstandings.

Our retreats are solemn and introspective in nature, centered around silent meditation to delve deeply into the workings of the mind. They entail a demanding commitment, both physically and mentally, necessitating a high level of diligence and maturity from all participants. During the eight-day period, participants are expected to spend the majority of their time in solitary reflection, refraining from verbal communication with fellow students and immersing themselves in meditation (sitting and walking) for the majority of each day.

While the program includes lectures and opportunities for questions and answers with the instructor, the primary focus of the retreat is on individual effort. Participants must maintain concentration and mindfulness, cooperate within a group setting, adhere to precise instructions, follow a strict schedule, observe silence, refrain from disturbing others, and engage with the instructor candidly and cooperatively.

Retreat Conduct

During the retreat, participants are required to observe noble silence. Noble Silence means serenity of the body, speech, and mind. Limited communication is permitted only with the staff regarding essential matters such as food, accommodation, and health concerns. Participants are encouraged to practice mindfulness, aiming to minimize any disruptions to others while also paying minimal attention to distractions caused by others. As part of the retreat protocol, participants are requested to surrender their mobile devices for safekeeping or leave them in their vehicles throughout the duration of the retreat. An electronic ban policy is strictly enforced within the meditation hall and dormitory. For further details, please consult the Retreat Conduct Guidelines.
